Bedourie Roadhouse, Queensland, Destroyed By Fire.

In the early hours of 15th September, a fire was detected in the Bedourie Roadhouse. Firefighters were called out at around 3.50 am but due to the expansive distance, didn’t arrive until 4.30 am. By then it was too late, the fire had destroyed most of the property.

The Bedourie Roadhouse is very important for both locals and tourists. It was the only source of fuel on the 382km stretch of road between Boulia and Birdsville. It was also the local grocery store.

According to QFES, the fire started in the storage area and roof. How it started is not yet known but is being investigated.

Anyone traveling between Boulia and Birdsville should now consider how they are going to refuel during that expansive stretch.
