Spic & Span: Exterior Van Care

At the campfire, Sunlandians share tricks for cleaning their vans

WORDS ALISON HUTH, EDITOR AT LARGE

A clean van not only looks good but lasts longer too. Thankfully, the Sunlander crew at Maryborough reveal how they preen their pride and joy with proven strategies.

Raptor Coating Care

Looking to restore your van’s Raptor Coating? Our Sunlanders shared a variety of products that did the job.

Solution Finish: Solution Finish is a brand that not only cleans but is a UV protector.

303 Protectant: 303 seems to be preferred by the majority of Sunlandians at the tips and hints session. It is water based and not oily or silicone as dust sticks to these.

Flitz: FLITZ is an American-made cleaner that’s available on Amazon. It works on vans and if you have scratches on your windows, Flitz may help remove them too.

Stone Chip Prevention

The Stone Stomper can be modified to cover a larger area by extending the inserted rubber strips and improving the end catches.

For the underneath, Busy Bee Brushes can be attached to deflect stones, while Mud Flaps are also useful. However, do not reduce the airflow over the brakes as they need air to keep cool.

Or you can create your own with Rubber Mesh.

Keep Your Cool

White or black window retractable awning blinds from Aussie Traveller are a great way to shade the off side of your van. Looks smart and does a great job.

Wash Up with a Top’ Sponge

Meet the new best friend when cleaning the caravan. After arriving home from Maryborough one Sunlandian used this mop for the first time to attack the insects that committed suicide on the front of the van. What a fabulous job it did with the attached scrub brush making short work of the squashed bugs. No need for a ladder to reach the front top of the Patriot. He used a truck wash detergent to assist in the cleaning job.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Sabco Absorbi Scrub PVA Sponge.

…or Try this Power Pole

RYOBI Now make an extendable cleaning wand to make access to the roof easier. Different heads are available.
