Caravanning Fitness: How to do a Standing Pec Stretch using your car!
Here’s how to do the Standing Pec Stretch Using Your Car
Taking breaks while driving is important, and stretching can help keep your body feeling good on long trips. Try this Standing Pec Stretch using your car for support.
How to perform one
- Find a stable surface – Stand next to your car, using the door frame or side panel for support.
- Position your arm – Place one arm slightly above shoulder height, with your palm against the car.
- Rotate your torso – Turn your body away from your arm while keeping your hand and arm firmly in place. You should feel a stretch in your chest.
- Keep your shoulder back – Avoid letting your shoulder roll forward as you rotate your torso.
- Hold the stretch – Stay in this position for 20-30 seconds.
- Feel the stretch – You may also feel it in your biceps, which is completely normal.
- Repeat – Do this 2-3 times per side, holding for 20-30 seconds each time.
REMEMBER: Listen to your body – The stretch should feel gentle but effective, not painful. If it hurts, stop and adjust your position.
Where else can I do it?
This quick stretch helps open up the chest, improves posture & relieves tension from sitting for long periods. Give it a go next time you stop for a break! You can perform the Standing Pec Stretch using various sturdy surfaces while on the road. Here are some great alternatives to leaning on your car:
- Tree trunk – A solid, natural option when stopping at rest areas or parks.
- Fence or railing – Common at roadside stops, picnic areas & lookouts.
- Park bench or picnic table – Use the backrest for support.
- Building wall – Rest stop facilities or service stations work well.
- Caravan or trailer – Use the door frame or a solid side panel.
- Light pole or signpost – If it’s thick enough to provide stability.
REMEMBER: No matter what you use, just ensure it’s sturdy and won’t move while you stretch. Perfect for breaking up long drives and keeping your shoulders open!
