Tableland Treasure

The homely comforts at Walkamin Caravan Park left a deep impression.

Some caravan parks have one stand out feature that ensures you remember that park–for good or bad. Walkamin Caravan Park, on the other hand, has so many it is hard to know where to start.

Easier Checking In

This is as good a place as any to start. The office is delightful, big enough to hold a few people, small enough to be comfortable. Check-in is smooth and you begin to feel special straight away.

Spacious Campsites

Don’t go looking for lines in the grass, it’s not that sort of park. There are some back-in sites, and there is a chance of some drive- throughs coming–no date, they will be there when they are there! Your choice will be slab or grass, and the grass is amazing. Soft, green and very hardy. And with so much room, you enjoy that feeling of space.

The Amenities

Tuscan, no other word for them. I liked them, they had character without being silly and were spotlessly clean. During the off- season, if the park is quiet, the men’s block is closed down and one side of the ladies becomes the men’s. A very reasonable explanation of why there is a single urinal in one of the women’s amenities. It becomes part of the decorations and is home to a pot plant when not needed!

Landscaped Gardens

New owners Dallas and Mark have spent a lot of time cleaning the park and reorganising the gardens. They are beautiful and add so much to the total ambience of the park. I’m not sure if Mark will ever be finished with the gardens as he loves seeing them grow and generate smiles on people’s faces.

Comfortable Camp kitchen
This is the heart of the park, literally and figuratively. Open on two sides, it is huge and set-up to be the place to be. There are plenty of tables and chairs, a huge fire for winter with some deep chairs around. People are coming and going at all times. Books to exchange, lots of photos from previous park happenings and the usual cooking facilities. I think I saw a pizza oven hiding in a corner.

But the thing that really got me was the jigsaw table with about 10×1000 piece jigsaw puzzles. I can’t wait to go back in winter to enjoy the fire and claim the jigsaw table!

It isn’t hard to understand why people love this park and why it is so popular. We spent two days there, and I can’t wait to go back, check out the gardens and start my first jigsaw.
