Auction Day in Omeo
Our Tania Kernighan is a country girl through and through. So much so she used to work at Elders Pastoral as a young woman. So, when the cattle sales were on in Omeo, Tania couldn’t have been happier.
It’s such an exciting day for the local farmers and to see so many of them turn up when we were there in early 2020, especially after the draught then the fires that had affected the area is nothing short of a miracle. It shows how tough these people of the land are.
The auction itself is entertaining. If you’ve never been to one it’s a well- choreographed exercise that moves extremely quickly as the auctioneer, and his “back-up dancers” move up and down a narrow platform accepting bids from farmers.
It’s loud, exhilarating and a great deal of fun. We can see why Tania was so excited to be there. And boy, is she popular. It seemed everyone wanted to have a chat with her and of course, being the wonderful person she is, she gave time to everyone that wanted it.
All in all, it was a terrific day.
