The DO35 Nut

Graham posted: Just a little warning and awareness that can avoid the ultimate accident if you take things for granted. We were driving along nicely on our way to Cairns. For the last two days when braking and accelerating the van would give us a little nudge. I thought either the DO35 bolts may have loosened or the ram that held the DO35 latch mechanism need adjusting. After several inspections over the two days I decided to stand at the back of the car and got Elyane to move forward and then brake. Problem found……..

The nut at the base of the DO35 pivot pin had come loose and unwound itself half way down the screw thread. Imagine the consequences if it had come away completely.

Fixing Frozen Fuel

Reg posted: Has anyone out there tried this before? With all the frosty weather up in New England (-9.6 one morning) our diesel for the heater was gelling even though I had kerosene in it. So when I googled the recommended ratio, it suggested 50%, which turns out to be quite an expensive exercise @ $5 a litre. I picked up this fuel treatment up from Supercheap Autos for $16 and it treats up to 100L of diesel.!! So far this week we have had a few wicked frosts and it seems to have worked

A real Turn Off from Bunnings!

Gavin posted: For those who screw a tap hose fitting onto their van’s filler neck when topping up their tanks, this handy little hose “on/off valve” from Bunnings i

s useful for turning the water off while swapping between tanks.

Better than running back and forward to the tap.

Lost the Nut!

Janelle posted: We lost this little awning lock on our travels, does anyone know the best place to find a new one please.

David said: Believe it or not it’s called a little black knob and most caravan spares will have them

Kirsty said: They are so annoying to put back on. Our trick was to use a flat head screwdriver

Upgrades for Forever Van

Upgraded battery system underneath the bed and installed a sliding panel to protect the tunnel boot electrics. We bought this van in 2012 and it is our forever van and we love it.

On or Off?

Deb posted: Hi Snowies just a quick one does the heater switch need to be on when plugged into mains or is it for solar/batteries only? Thanks in advance.

Bob said: That turns on the gas ignition for the hws. You can also use it when hws is on 240v for faster heatup

Too many pins!

Jason posted: If running a compressor fridge(not 3 way) can someone explain what the extra 12v wires in the plug are for?

Craig said: I only use 1-7 in my daydream, could have just used a 7 pin, will change it at some point.

Well Bless My Termite

Derek posted: Enjoying a nice fire at West branch camp, Mount Moffat QLD. Ranger left us some wood with a termite hole through the middle. These make great Roman candles and burn well.

DIY Leak Fix.

Charlie posted: When things are going well feel nervous. We were packing up at Windorah and the chief said she heard water running. The back of the van had water on the floor. I pulled out the washing machine and found a split hot water pipe near the guest fitting. Thankfully Allen left enough pipe that I could cut 100mm off the end and refit it. All good now.

Push Them In!!!!

When you are towing you must having towing mirrors so you can see down the side of your van. When you are NOT towing, push the extender ones in, or take the clip on, screw on ones off. It’s the law.
