Welcome to Edge Guide, a new idea to help all caravanners discover different places and events.

Edge Guide

Places to go, things to do.

Wanting to support small town business? Make your way to the Foxtrap in Cooladdi, QLD where you’ll find yourself in Australia’s smallest town. With a current population of 2, Cooladdi is a great place to visit and kick back for a day or two. The Foxtrap is not only the Cooladdi roadhouse, but it also fills the shoes of the town pub, the general store and the post office. Talk about multi-tasking! Cooladdi also boasts a great fishing spot close by at Quilberry Creek. Quilberry Creek has waterholes suitable for fishing, swimming, catching yabbys and camping.

Pump On, Water Off

Craig posted: Ok so have a question here about water.

We are camped in caravan park and have hose plugged into van. I noticed today that our water tanks are empty. These were full before we arrived. Why would our tanks be empty when on mains? Why would our fresh water tap work when on mains and pump is not switched on??

Consensus answer was to turn pumps off when you are on mains. They may have turned on when you disabled Eco mode.

Water and Air Don’t Mix

Julian posted: I seem to constantly have trouble with air in my water tanks, tried altering the flow, smaller diameter pipes etc. etc. Just wondering if it’s possible to fill the tanks from the bottom? Maybe something rigged up from here with a hose connector? Thoughts?

Brett replied: We kept getting air locks. So fill from bottom now with caps open to let air out. Have never had an air lock again and full tanks.

Beat the Heat

Rod posted: It’s 36c outside and the AC is holding 24c. The temperature inside the two skylights is close to 50c + and only a thin concertina fabric shade cover. Has anyone have a tried solution to mitigate the heat build up in that small area. Has to be affecting the AC performance.

Stuart replied: We had these made through Solarscreen. Works a treat

AARG! Not the P6

Pudd posted: 37 tomorrow (in Vic) and our Dometic Air con has thrown a P6 error code. Any ideas??

Paul had 2 mud wasp nests that had to be removed as they stopped the blades rotating.

Emily said Reset (turn everything off) wait and back on – it’s overheating. Ours did this for 2 years. Got a domestic aircon guy in and the exhaust fan had been plugged in the wrong way, so air was blowing into the unit not out. Fixed and all good now.

Just Needs Stringing.

Susan posted: Has anyone replaced the pull strings on the Ranger skylight? Price for a new one complete $380.

Michael replied: Yes I did, it’s fiddly but can be done, I brought the string and restrung it, lubed the whole thing with silicone spray, works great.

Split my Spring

Greg posted: I noticed most of the polyurethane coil spring bump stops on cruise master XT had small splits in them, I have some issues with polyurethane bushes breaking down after a few years so check yours as these usually disintegrate very quick when they get a certain age. Image shows how brittle these become. Looks like another wet day job if I can get the parts.

Stop 2. A further 500m away at Mechanic because we couldn’t get fridge to work off the car battery. Newbie mistake – need to press another button.

Stop 3. Local tip for weighbridge. We were under our limits. Yay

Stop 4. Local town centre for late afternoon coffee.

Stop 5. Oberon showgrounds.
