More Jobs to Meet Caravan Demand in Victoria

Caravan Industry Victoria (CIV) is leading a partnership creating 150 new jobs with its members in the caravan industry in Victoria. The project was launched on Sunday 31 October by the Hon Jaala Pulford, Minister for Employment at participating program industry member, Crusader Caravans.

CIV manufacturing members will employ 150 new workers to help meet booming national demand for locally built caravans which will assist in reducing bottle necks and delivery time of new caravans and RVs. Caravan Industry Victoria CEO Rob Lucas said; “This is a significant project that will go a long way in supporting our members with new people working in our industry. We clearly understand our members across all sectors need new labour to meet current and future demands. We aim to assist them.”

The project has been funded by Jobs Victoria and is being led by Caravan Industry Victoria and NORTH Link, the North of Melbourne’s Economic Development agency. The project will support people looking for work with on-the-job training at multiple manufacturers in Melbourne’s north to commence with.

Victoria is the heartland of the nation’s caravan manufacturing industry. The sector is worth $2.3 billion to the Victorian economy and demand for caravans has exploded in the past year with sales increasing by 30 percent across the industry.

With 90 percent of Australian caravans manufactured in Victoria, the industry contributes over $600 million in wages to the state’s economy every year.

The exponential growth in demand for caravans has placed significant pressure on manufacturers to expand but finding new and skilled workers has been a challenge and has hindered productivity.

Under this ‘earn and learn’ initiative of the Victorian Government, 150 workers will receive on-the-job support and skill development to kickstart their new careers while earning an income. These are secure jobs which will help CIV members meet current and forecast workforce shortages over the next two to three years.

“Great innovation for our industry, 150 new employees coming into our industry is brilliant”. Nat Schiavello President Caravan Industry Victoria.
