Rise to the Occasion

When you’re glampa- vanning full time, allocating space for your gear is a given but what about a “spare” spare when plans fall astray?

Ready for adventure, the On the Move Black Edition Vortex 19ft dual axle not only provides a large toolbox and tunnel boot storage upfront but two mud- terrain tyres for managing pickles en-route to your next bucket-list camp. They’re supported by the DO35 coupling and the Tuff-Ride suspension with stage 3 airbags controlled on independent trailing arms. These are great for varying conditions. Easy to raise when straddling rougher roads or to lower for fuel efficiency on the highway. What’s more, that airbag comforts continue at camp, where you can remotely lower and level your Vortex for easier access indoors on uneven ground.

Outdoor Kitchen

Back from the tunnel boot, we see the neat external kitchen with three different size gas burners perfect for steak, onions and freshly-brewed espresso. The Thetford 353 unit featuring a sink and a mixer fits neatly on On the Move’s own CAD-designed and cut slide-out drawer. Notably, the kitchen faces the communal area under the roll-out awning, for communal happy hour meals. And the fact you can control the kitchen height with those airbags boosts its overall ergonomics.

A nifty drop-down picnic table nearby is the perfect spot for a second pair of hands to organise meals or dry the dishes.

The sharp black exterior complete with half-height checker-plate impresses, with niceties like bug lighting and external speakers and table storage at the rear improving this space to no end.

Smart, Warm Styling

The styling continues indoors, with the rear entry accommodating couches at the tri-fold table complete with neck- and footrests for relaxing at day’s end. It’s calmly lit with tapered wall lamp lights complementing the ceiling LEDs.

The trimmed timber-like panelling in the kitchen brings a smart and warm touch to the matt black tapware and charcoal cabinetry and furnishings. Targeted, diffused lighting brightens the benchtop for kitchen duties. Plus, there’s an oven, grill and four-burner cooktop, a microwave and a compressor fridge for easy meals.

Upfront is the bedroom. The padded bedhead, overlooking the TV, is surrounded by targeted lighting and dark cabinetry for restful kips after long days. We love the two NCE windows on either side, too, offering excellent airflow control for capturing those pleasant coastal breezes.

Lithium & 510W Solar

The kitchen colour scheme flows through to the large, brightly lit bathroom at the rear. There’s a separate toilet here, a concealed 3kg washing machine and a large shower for home comforts away from mains. It’s all supported with the twin 110L water tanks and 110L for grey waste when you’re between fully-serviced campsites.

The 200Ah lithium set-up is teamed with a generous 510W solar array, Projecta PM300 power management system incorporating an MPPT 30A solar controller and LCD control panel. You can tap into that power via the 2000W inverter off-the-grid.

Two hatches and two Sirocco fans aerates the cabin while a low profile split system air-conditioner keeps it comfortable in weather extremes. Not to forget the Dometic Dust Reduction System, for cleaner interiors as you arrive at camp.

Final Word

If you’re looking to hit the road for an extended tour in style, the Black Edition Vortex delivers comfort in spades with plenty of off-the-grid capability so you can take your time. What’s more, with the airbag suspension, dust mitigation and an extra spare tyre, the Vortex Black Edition 19ft is well prepared for that extra mile to some of our finest bucket-list gems.
