Let’s Go Gold Coast Caravan & Outdoor Expo to go ahead!
The Let’s Go Gold Coast Caravan & Outdoor Expo, brought to you by Caravanning Queensland, will go ahead as planned at Metricon Stadium from Friday March 4 to Sunday March 6.
Caravanning Queensland, in conjunction with major stakeholders, have assessed the potential risk and determined that the environment is safe and suitable for the event to proceed.
The Stadium precinct is dry and not flooded. Roads are open, enabling good access to the area, and aside from some intermittent showers, the weather forecast is promising.
Jason Plant, CEO of Caravan Trade & Industries of Queensland acknowledges the impact the recent floods have had on southeast Queensland residents.
“Our hearts go out to those in need and our organisation will certainly do our part to assist our member businesses through the recovery process ,” he says.
However, Mr Plant also cites the impact of COVID-19 on the events industry as a key driver for the event still going ahead as planned.
“2020 saw the majority of events cancelled or postponed with ongoing uncertainty throughout 2021, making it one of the hardest hit sectors of the pandemic. And we are committed to doing everything we can to help rebuild the sector,” he says.
“Proceeding with this event demonstrates our support for the businesses, employees and contractors who rely on events like this to survive, many of whom are only just starting to recover from the pandemic. Another cancellation would simply be another setback for this sector,” he adds.
To reassure attendees about the safety of the event, Mr Plant notes that Metricon Stadium is a major sporting facility, owned by Stadiums Queensland and operated by the Gold Coast Football Club.
“The stadium management team has extensive experience delivering a variety of major events within the Carrara precinct in partnership with the City of Gold Coast Council. The stadium is used to dealing with the impact of severe weather in the area surrounding the venue and fortunately, the stakeholder group has no concerns about the venue’s capacity to host the event this weekend,” he says.
With the event proceeding as planned, more than 100 exhibitors will be on display ranging from caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, tent trailers, campervans, tow vehicles and accessories.
