Change is Good – The Road Vehicle Standards Act

With a vision to lead and champion a robust, compliant and sustainable caravanning and camping industry, Caravan Industry Association of Australia are heavily involved in the development and advancement of numerous industry-relevant standards and regulations.

For over five years, Caravan Industry Association of Australia have been committed to being heavily involved in the RVSA roll out and are actively participating in the four consultation groups formed by the federal government to provide feedback on all aspects of the proposed methods of implementation.

The RVSA will come into effect from 10 December 2019 and will replace the current Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 (MVSA). The MVSA controls the safety, environmental and anti-theft performance of all new and used road vehicles (including Recreational Vehicles) entering the Australian market for the first time. This new legislation (RVSA) ensures that the 1989 Motor Vehicle Standards Act better reflects the significant changes in global and domestic vehicle markets and improvements in vehicle technologies over the last few decades.
