Catch the family-friendly Ausflex Extreme trackside!

For decades, fellow caravanning brands have banked their names on Ausflex’ know-how, drawing upon its diverse experience as a third party builder to deliver vans of all shapes and sizes for all touring needs. Now, stepping out of the sidelines, Ausflex is using this extensive manufacturing muscle to craft its very own line of high-quality, competitively-priced caravans, from a sporty 12fter to the all off-road palatial family luxury tourer–seen here at Tough Tested with an alloy roof and frame.

Triple Bunks

Indeed, as Ausflex’ mightiest, the Ausflex Extreme Family F21’6 with triple bunks comfortably accommodates a family of five without adjustment–or six with the nifty infill spacious L-shape lounge.

The brightly lit kitchen-dining area is the centrepiece of the 21ft 6in layout, comprising a smart angled benchtop that optimises preparation space. Fans, split system air-conditioning, midge-proof security door and dust mitigation help keep the high gloss interior comfy and neat. The Tough Tested 2024 demonstrator also featured a Nature’s Head composting toilet in the wall-to-wall ensuite to the rear.

Roadrunner Suspension

Ausflex uses lots of checker-plate on its nose and 800mm on the side walls, which sits high from the road boosted by the 2in riser. Bashplating underneath also shields the twin 95L freshwater tanks and a 95L grey tank against debris on the track. Notably, the suspension and galvanised chassis are locally made by Roadrunner with Aussie steel, which fits together neatly thanks to the Oz Trekker independent suspension’s modular style. Peddars dampers and 63mm sub axles help tame the coil springs on rutted tracks, with 12in brakes bringing it all to a halt.

Sway Control

A few nice external touches include the DO35 coupling up front, BMPRO sway control, an external shower and the reversing camera and exterior lighting setup, which comprises two bars out the back. There’s even one above the tunnel boot, which would team beautifully with a slide-out kitchen. Up top, 400W of solar partners with twin AGM batteries on the chassis support the 3000W inverter off-grid, managed with a BMPRO system.
