Like a bedroom ensuite? Check out the New Age Big Red ES2 Slider
PREVIEW: New Age Big Red ES2 Slider
Like a bedroom ensuite? New Age has delivered this in the Big Red ES2 Slider for years!
It’s one thing to relish bells and whistles but when you’re on the road for an extended time, how they flow stacks up considerably.
Take this New Age Big Red ES2 Slider. It’s jam-packed with popular luxury goodies: a club lounge, two TVs, a large ensuite and a comfortable queen-size bed. But how these features sit together is what makes the ES2 sing.
A master bedroom?
New Age does a great job separating the living spaces in the Big Red ES2 Slider. There is a kitchen and dining room up-front, an ensuite out back and a bedroom divided with curtains for a homely feel. The full rear-width ensuite is right next to that palatial queen-size bed.
What makes this 19ft master bedroom/ensuite configuration possible is the bedroom slide out–one that’s so well integrated, you almost forget it’s there.
Sliding comforts
If you enjoy homely comforts, though, that slide-out enhances the bedroom significantly. The east-west facing-bed retreats for easy access onto the innerspring mattress. The bedroom is distinct from the kitchen, with the padded bedhead defining this space. There’s targeted lighting here, 12V outlets, shelves and cabinets–in front of the rising 40in TV.
You’re close to the ensuite, too, which, being as wide as the van, comes with goodies like the Daewoo washer that’s wall-mounted for ease.
Room for more!
In the dining-kitchen area, we see a 180L compressor fridge-freezer opposite the galley. Window light brightens up the sink and drainer next to the cooktop with a grill. It looks tight, but a slide-out benchtop helps when prepping meals. There’s also a microwave that’s turntable free. Upfront is the club lounge in front of a second TV, a 28in model with a DVD player. The ambience is lovely, with light pouring through the skylight and three large windows. Top lockers add storage and the table lowers to support an extra bed.
Walkinshaw difference
While the 19ft slide-out bedroom-ensuite layout isn’t new to the New Age lineup, the ES2 has recently benefited from Walkinshaw’s engineering expertise. The perforated chassis crossmembers are strong yet light. The front, rear and roof panels are insulated Alucobond. The spare’s inset for aerodynamics. While coating shields the front, tunnel boot, toolbox and rear against road debris.
The twin-axles with rocker roller suspension improve stability. It also comes with a reversing camera, stabiliser control and 10in brakes.
Off-grid capability
Being designed for long-term touring, the ES2 comes with two 100Ah batteries, a 35A battery management system and a single 150W solar panel for some off-the-grid flexibility. That’s supported by two 110L freshwater tanks and 110L in greywater capacity.
Other comforts include air-con, a multi-signal aerial and a hot water system. These, combined with a thoughtful layout, make the New Age Big Red ES2 Slider a real contender if long-term touring comfort is high on your list of priorities.
