Great Aussie Caravans Official Owners Group

A Great Idea

Tig posted that they took the table out inside, if felt too big, Now they have a couple of small tables which look fabulous. When they eat outside, they have another table.

Small round timber tables with lips provide caravanners more room to move around in the Great Aussie caravan

Always check!

Paul posted that he does a pre start each morning before hitting the road.
He found that the hitch pin locking collar had come away and pin started to drift out. No damage because he did his pre-start check.

Lights On and Off

Question was – how do you turn these lights on and off over the bed. They are movable along a fitted track. Answer is to flick the lever at the back that holds them to the runner.

Now for the Ark!

Richo decided to upgrade the AL-KO jockey wheel to this centre mount Ark. It doesn’t need removing when hitched up, and has a drop of nearly 1 metre. It’s a quick slide down when pulling the locking handle, then wind a little. Lives 50mm below drawbar when travelling so not much at all.

Long Drop Mates

A word to the wise from Kevin. If your only option is a long drop toilet or your own be prepared for a visit from the long drop residents. If you don’t want to say g’day to them, use your van facilities!

Linda’s lessons

Lesson #1 I’ve learnt that by connecting plastic press studs to our top and bottom sheets they stay secure and tucked in under the mattress – instead of floating around the bed all night

Lesson #2 I’ve learnt if you don’t use your motorhome for 2 months make sure you check on it each week…… mice have a field day in it while your away 🤣

Ouch!

Don saw a roo, 2 seconds later the roo bounced back from the bull bar. Without this good sized bull bar Don reckons the car would have been out of action and on a tow truck back home. His advice, don’t skimp on a small bull bar.

Looks tricky!

Tracey posted that the handle has snapped off the ball valve but it still works. How easy it is to replace it. Looks like the whole pipe moves when I try to unscrew it. Help please.

Adam replied – Just cut the old one off and replace it with a new one available from bunnings. Hack saw, pvc glue and away you go.

Fencing in a van

Calvin posted: Thought I’d share this mod for protecting the electrics and heater under the bed. Two wire shelves from Kmart. Still allows plenty of air-flow.

Avoid Confusion

David has 7 tanks, including grey water. He has avoided confusion by labelling all the filling points. Very clever idea.

Underneath this caravan we see a closeup showing 7 different water storage outlets for fresh, drinking and grey water, labelled by the owner for convenience

Is it broken?

Is the grey water tank broken if it shows 3 grey lines when it’s empty. Well, maybe best idea is to ignore the lines when you know it’s empty.

White switch mystery

Does anyone know what the white switch is for. Two major answers, turning the fridge off, or turning the outdoor speakers on.

Take a Torch

Another essential tip. If you’re going to the amenities block at night, take a torch. This man didn’t and fell over some sandstone blocks. Take care and take a TORCH!

Tyre Pressure Monitors – Essential

Kathy writes that their tyre pressure monitor showed a puncture in a tyre. Instead of driving on and destroying the tyre, they found a repair shop, easy to work with and get into. Congratulations on having a Tyre Pressure Monitor.

La Vista Caravan Owners Group

What is this?

It’s access to shower taps and connections. One owner had an external shower fitted here and reckons it’s the best thing he’s done.
