The inaugural Grampians Peaks Trail 100 Miler Trail Race puts challengers through their paces in one of the world’s most renowned national parks

The Grampians Peaks Trail is ready to test some of the world’s best endurance athletes this November as it hosts the newest world-class trail race, the GPT 100 Miler, presented by HOKA. Between the 23rd and 26th of November, trail runners will pass through rugged and varied terrain while taking in breathtaking views on a 100-mile route in the Grampians National Park, Gariwerd. Towns and villages dotted alongside the foothills of the Grampians Peaks Trail will be a hive of activity with family and friends keen to support competitors, even if enjoying fine wine and culinary delights as their loved one takes on the trail.

With over 7502 metres of climbing across the trail, the GPT 100 Miler is divided into four sections, each with unique challenges. The race kicks off at Mt Zero and heads to Halls Gap, a leg that is easy to move through at speed despite being the longest leg at 50km. The second section is considered the most difficult, leading runners towards Mount William with continuous climbs and technical tracks, especially on the ascent to Redman Bluff. The third section combines short, punchy climbs, rock hopping, and faster terrain. The final section traverses the southern Grampians featuring steep ascents, stairs to Mount Abrupt and Mount Sturgeon summit, and a river trail into the charming township of Dunkeld.

Trail organisers, SingleTrack Events, have mapped out different ways to take on the GPT 100 Miler. Competitors can endeavour to conquer the 100 mile race individually or by relaying in teams. For those with limited time, there’s a 50km option on the first day. Both male and female winners of the GPT 100 Miler will each receive a prize of $2500.

Marc Sleeman, CEO of Grampians Tourism expressed excitement about the event: ‘We are thrilled to support the professional team at SingleTrack Events and their inaugural trail race along the world-class Grampians Peaks Trail. This event showcases our region’s breathtaking natural beauty and embraces the spirit of adventure so many travellers come to find. We look forward to seeing the Grampians Peaks Trail introduced to a new group of outdoor enthusiasts who share our respect for the awe-inspiring Grampians landscape.’

To ensure the preservation of the area’s natural integrity, the event includes mandatory shoe-wash stations throughout the course to prevent the spread of harmful fungus in the National Park. Numerous aid stations and safety precautions are in place to ensure the well-being of all runners, and each athlete must carry a mandatory safety pack.

The Grampians Peaks Trail features multiple waterfalls and spectacular views and was built to encompass all the natural beauty of the Grampians National Park, Gariwerd. Much of the journey treks through remote wilderness areas, where the well-maintained trail remains a consistent source of safety.

Registration for the various race options starts at $700 for standard entry, with registrations closing on September 30th.
