Queensland caravanners and 4WDers can now legally up the Gross Combined Mass of their locally-registered tow vehicles. The scope for legal, OEM-approved Gross Combined Mass re-classifications are covered in The Queensland Code of Practice: Vehicle Modifications (QCOP) LS16 Gross Combined Mass dated February 2023 and released by the Queensland Transport Department in early March.

The Code also covers axle-ratings and Gross Vehicle Mass modifications re-rating addressed in LS11 & LS15 modification codes. 

Prior to the legislative changes, GCM re-classifications meeting the Federal Framework were solely permitted on unregistered vehicles that had never been in service.
